Violins of Hope Iowa
February 28 – April 26, 2026
1st Floor Gallery

Violins of Hope is a project of concerts, exhibitions, and programs based on a private collection of violins, violas, and cellos, all collected since the end of World War II. Many of the instruments belonged to Jews before and during the war.
This February, the GAHC+M joins community partners like the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities, The Quad City Symphony Orchestra, The Putnam Museum, the Figge Art Museum, and others to bring the Violins of Hope to Iowa. This collection of instruments which will be partially exhibited here at the GAHC+M is a haunting, yet inspiring way to continue Holocaust education in the present day.
Companion events:
Sunday April 12th – Kaffee und Kuchen: Verschleppt: The Carrying off of Markus and Anna Mattes.
