From chocolate, pastries, sweets, and more, German immigrants brought candy making skills to the United States and made their mark on American communities. The Quad Cities was once home to numerous candy manufacturers of German heritage which were popular locally and regionally. Learn about the different candy manufacturers in our area in our newest exhibition, Sweet Treats: German Influence on the QC Candy Industry.
The museum will be CLOSED on Saturday October 12th. We will be busy making sure Oktoberfest in Rock Island is running smoothly. Come join us!
Free admission from 12-4 pm, tickets required after 4:00. Food, games, family activities, zither music, and of course, beer! 🍻 🥨 🇩🇪

Phase 2 of our exhibition progress!
We installed a new light fixture, wrapped the walls with ship imagery, added a ticket window on the exterior, and added some of the built-out details. It is so exciting to see everything come together. Next is installing the hands-on activities, computer programming, an finishing touches.

Phase 1 of our permanent exhibition renovation!
After enjoying our permanent exhibition hotel rooms for 15 years, we decided it was time for a little refresh. One of our two model hotel rooms is in the process of becoming an imaginative space for children to learn about immigration history. We swapped the furniture to the other hotel room (which was previously closed to the public, but is now open!) in order to transform this one into a "ship" with activities and information that can be enjoyed by our younger visitors.
Stay tuned for more progress and installation photos! Thanks to Edwards Creative for all of their guidance and collaboration over the past several months to help us bring our vision to life.
October is Quad Cities Museum Month! The German American Heritage Center and Museum is offering free admission on Saturdays all month. There are always new things to see so whether your a first time visitor or you have been here before there is something to learn.

From the building’s long history as a hotel for early German immigrants to its more seedy years as a brothel in the 20th century, the hotel was a hub for mayhem, mystery, and tragedy in Davenport’s early days.
