Wooden toys are an iconic piece of German history. They are still widely popular today and known for their craftsmanship and durability. This workshop provides all materials and instruction.
Learn about the history of wooden toys and Steve’s experience selling his handmade creations all over the midwest. Construct your own toy out of the pieces provided and take home your creation. This workshop is suitable for all ages and is a great family activity.
$5 per participant for material cost. A parent or guardian may accompany a child free of charge.

Steve Verdon is a Davenport native who has dedicated many years to making toys. The business started with his parents in their garage in 1990. The started going to small, local shows and in 1991 they began going to national shows. Over the years there operation expanded and attended thousands of arts and craft shows from1990-2022 throughout Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, and Missouri. Steve continued to business after the death of his parents in 2007 and 2017, until inventory ran out in 2022. He has received numerous awards for his creations.

Currently on display are 20th century, German Expressionist Prints from the David and Sarojini Johnson Collection. Come visit us now through December 14th to have the chance to see original works from artists like Max Beckmann and Käthe Kollwitz.

Get ready for the 8th annual Best of the Wurst sausage competition, this Sunday, July 13th from 12:00 am- 4:00 pm! Members get in free to this fun competition where you can sample local brats, purchase a variety of delicious food, enjoy an ice cold beer or pop, and vote for your favorite “wurst!” This year we will also ice cream from Here`s the Scoop to taste! Did you know the Col Ballroom in the West End of Davenport, is part of the National Register of Historic Places?
Though renamed in 1914, Col Ballroom originates from the Saengerfest Halle. This building brought together German musicians across the Midwest. Today it is no longer a performance venue, but we can keep its legacy alive by talking about it.
