Our experienced docents and staff are glad to show you around our historic building and educational exhibits.

Private Tours

Museum Tours

Interested in booking a tour for your group? Our staff and docents can guide you through the permanent exhibition and two rotating exhibition galleries. For scheduling and rates, email inquiries to [email protected] or call 563-322-8844. 

Walking Tours

Interested in learning more about Davenport Architecture and History? We offer two types of Walking Tours that include a stroll through the city while learning more about the city and its vibrant history: “Architectural Tours” (offered May through September) and “Darker Side of Davenport Tours” (offered in October). For available dates, see our events page. For private scheduling and rates, email inquiries to [email protected] or call 563-322-8844.

Seasonal Tours

Free tours are offered quarterly throughout the year. These docent guided tours feature our Permanent Exhibition as well as our Special Exhibitions (which rotate throughout the year). Check our events page for upcoming dates.

ASL Tours

ASL Tours are available by request. Contact us at [email protected] to schedule a tour with an ASL interpreter. 

"Sitting" Tours

We offer indoor, presentation-style versions of our Architecture and Darker Side Tours for those who do not want to walk the full routes. These are scheduled during the tour season and are posted on our event page. To access the recordings of these tours, contact [email protected].

Have you ever wanted to share your love of history, connect with visitors, and help bring our exhibits to life?  Become a museum docent to help make our visitors' experience more memorable! 

Docents help transform quiet galleries into dynamic learning spaces with opportunity for dialogue. If you love to learn, tell stories, and are excited about local history, being a docent might be a great fit for you. 

As a docent, you’ll help lead tours, engage with visitors, share the stories that shaped our community, and help preserve our history for future generations.

Training will be provided through three 2-hour sessions beginning in September, with dates scheduled around participant availability.

On August 1st, 1994 the German American Hertiage Center was established as a non-profit organization. After 32 years, we have restored the building into a museum, and now offer programs, special exhibitions, events, and so much more to preseve the German immigrant stories that formed our community in Davenport. Our walking tours share details of residents' personal lives, as well as notable architectural styles found along the route.
