Presentation: Battle of the Rock Island Rapids
1:30 and 3:00 PM
In the summer of 1814, the furthest west campaign of the War of 1812 took place in the upper Mississippi Valley that would relinquish control of the Rock Island Rapids to British-aligned Native Americans until the establishment of Fort Armstrong in 1816. The battle of Credit Island is a portion of this campaign and would be fought between the “British Band” of Native Americans led by Blackhawk fighting to repel American forces under the command of Major Zachary Taylor.
Talk presented by Kevin Braafladt.
