Everyone has heard of Carnival in Rio and Mardi Gras in New Orleans, but unless you’ve been to Germany in February you probably didn’t know that many regions have traditions, celebrations, and parades every year leading up to the beginning of Lent. This presentation will acquaint you with Karneval in Cologne on the Rhine and Fastnacht in the Black Forest.
Kathlyn lived in Germany for 27 years teaching German and ESL for the DoDEA School System. She also taught several beginning and intermediate German language classes at the GAHC+M.

Our new photography exhibition, "With You, I Am Myself," is now on view on the 4th floor of the museum. During the run of the exhibition (April 6th) we invite you to take a photo with a friend or friends and submit to us to be included in our digital slideshow of friends.
Photo submissions can be emailed to gahcphotographs@gmail.com. Photos should be landscape and jpg, heic, or png files.
Submitted photos will be on display in our lobby throughout the exhibition.

The German American Heritage Center and Museum seeks a Development Director to support the goals and mission of the museum.
The Development Director will play a crucial role in fostering and maintaining relationships with our donors and sponsors. This position involves managing donor communications, organizing fundraising events, and ensuring that our supporters feel valued and informed about the impact of their contributions. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a passion for history, and a commitment to enhancing the donor experience.

The Hope of Plants: Prints by Joseph Lappie is on view now until February 26th, 2025.
Herbs, flowers, vegetables, roots, and the occasional creature. This series couples the intentional carved marks of 15th century wood engravings with the bold shapes and composition of early 20th century expressionist woodcuts. The result is a hand-colored contemporary portrayal of personal herbology, or the assumed language of a plant and its individual meaning to a person.
Joseph Lappie is a professor and the chair of Art + Design at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. He teaches book arts, drawing, papermaking, & printmaking and serves the regional community in arts-based demonstrations.
