The German Harmonica and the Blues
November 4, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Herbert Quelle, the German Consul General for the Midwest in Chicago, has researched extensively the German roots of the pocket-sized companion of European immigrant since the 19th century. His research concludes that the German production of the harmonica and the influence of African-American harmonica artists constituted a relationship for the blues as a universally appreciated musical genre.
Quelle will be visiting from Chicago to share with us his research, including a slide show, a musical demonstration, and readings from the book “Monika’s Blues- On the Trail of the German Harmonic and African-American Blues Culture”.
