The Culture They Carried

The Culture They Carried: Women Immigrants of Iowa

Open Jan 15- May 21, this new exhibit takes a look at the social, economic, and cultural impact immigrant women have had on this country, and importantly, to the state of Iowa. Not only is the exhibit multi generational, spanning from the early 1800’s to modern day immigration, but multi cultural as well. Visitors can compare and contrast the experience of women from different times and different cultures, such as Swedish, Russian, Irish, Jewish, and Mexican. Visitors are encouraged to add the stories to the exhibit on a dynamic growing wall of pictures and stories.

Do you have a female immigrant in your family? Please share it with us and have them become part of our exhibit! Send a picture and a short write up to ktd@gahc.org to be featured in the exhibit!
