Fall is upon us and Keith is back with some new designs! Keith will teach the German paper cutting art of Scherenschnitte with a nice autumn twist! Come join us for fun German-inspired children’s activities from 1-2pm: Come by and craft your St. Martin's Day Lanterns! The nights before and on the night of Nov. 11, children in Germany walk in processions carrying lanterns, which they made in school, and sing Martin songs. The Demise of German-Iowan Newspapers During World War I

Prior to World War I, Iowa had some 40 thriving German newspapers. By 1926, all but four had ceased publication. Anti-German sentiment during the war caused the majority of these papers to either switch to English or close operations entirely, including Iowa's premier German-American newspaper, the Davenport Demokrat.
