Bruch’s First Violin Concerto: 150 Years Later

In May of 2018, Joshua Bell will visit the Quad Cities Symphony to perform one of the giants of the German Romantic repertoire, Max Bruch's First Violin Concerto. Augustana music professor and composer Jacob Bancks will visit the German American Heritage Center to walk us through this beloved work which premiered in 1868 in its revised and final form. The German American Heritage Center is excited to present the Putnam's Curator of History and Anthropology Christina Kastell on July 22nd at 2 PM! In the 1800's women's clothing actually restricted them from taking an active part in society. By the 1920's, both women's clothing – and society – was much looser. Born near Ames, Iowa, and descendant of German Immigrants, Billy Sunday was an American Athlete that turned into a highly influential figure in both religion and politics. It's that time of year again! The Davenport Zither Ensemble will hold their annual summer zither concert at the German American Heritage Center. Come and hear the soothing sounds of this traditional German instrument. Listen to traditional folk-songs, or maybe a more contemporary piece you're more likely to recognize. The group is the largest Zither group in the Midwest and is sure to entertain! $5 suggested donation!

Come join us for fun German-inspired children’s activities from 1-2pm: It's that time of year again, getting ready for school! Be sure to visit the GAHC and make your own Schultüte, a German tradition to help students return to school with supplies, candy, and other goodies for your first day back! All Children and Students with ID get FREE ENTRY to the museum and the exhibits all day!
