Researching Your German Ancestors Genealogy Workshop
September 30 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Would you like to know more about your German ancestry? With all the resources out there, sometimes it can be difficult to construct coherent trees and family histories. If you would like to know more about your past, join us and Scharlott Blevins in a two-hour workshop title “Researching Your German Ancestors: Who, When, and Where?” This program will take place Sunday, September 30th from 1Pm to 3PM. Scharlott will be available until 4Pm for further questions.
Scharlott Goettsh Blevins has an extensive historical and genealogical background. She has been a Professional Genealogy Researcher and Consultant since 1989, a Records Officer at St. Ambrose University, and even the Associate Director at the German American Heritage Center! She has done research and analyzed multiple historical, genealogical, and legal records from various repositories and even developed curriculum for genealogy classes. She has lectured at conferences and seminars across the United States, Canada, and even Europe on genealogical research. She also published two volumes of Scott County, Iowa Cemetery Record. Her qualifications continue even further and is an excellent resource herself in the study of history and genealogy.
The two hour presentation on researching your ancestors in Germany includes differing types of records available, where to find them, how to obtain them for personal use, how to research with maps and histories, as well as the pitfalls on using the internet. Scharlott will teach about the varying sources and methods to obtain the clearest history on your family as possible. This workshop is good for veterans of genealogy as well as those with novice experience and interested. Price of admission will be $40 for members and $45 nonmembers.
