The German American Heritage Center museum is designed with the following qualities:

Imaginative – The museum uses imaginative storytelling techniques, once the domain of the entertainment industry, to bring the highest education value possible.

Educational – A key to learning is engagement. The museum is designed to connect with and to educate visitors of diverse ages and backgrounds by presenting factual historical information through entertaining, interactive exhibits.

Memorable – The museum is designed to create lasting impressions which can make complex subject matter understandable. The design will use theatrical techniques coupled with sophisticated technology to deliver content in the most engaging manner.

Intergenerational – The museum connects with all generations simultaneously. For example, in one section of the museum a timeline will highlight 2,000 years of German culture for adult visitors, while just below hidden doors will be placed at a young child’s eye level containing animal and fairytale characters for children to discover.

Interactive – The museum engages visitors to participate in their learning experience. For example, the Step Into My Shoes exhibit allows visitors to step on footprints of a male, female, or child and a corresponding character appears on a screen and tells their personal story of immigration. Stories are based on actual diary and journal accounts.
