Roots

“Roots” Special Exhibit (Opens mid-August 2010)
The term Roots refers to a person’s original or true home, environment and culture. “Roots” is a bi-state exhibition featuring artists living within a 250 mile radius of the Quad Cities. The exhibition takes place simultaneously in Iowa and Illinois, with a portion on display at the German American Heritage Center museum (712 W. 2nd St., Davenport, Iowa) and part at the Quad City Arts Center gallery (1715 2nd Ave., Rock Island, Illinois). Both venues are located within a 5 minute drive across the Mississippi River. In addition to this special exhibit you can explore the German American Heritage Center’s museum and learn about immigrants’ journey by sea, train and foot, to their final destination at the German American Heritage Center building, which was originally a very busy hotel for thousands of immigrants in the 1860s. The German American Heritage Center museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Sundays from noon – 4 p.m. Admission is as follows: Adults: $5; Seniors: $4; Children: $3 (5 - 17 years old); Family: $12; Free for children under 5; and free for museum members.
